25. Avril Lavigne, 20 Written by NICK POWILLS Avril Lavigne has quickly gone from a sweet little 17-year-old to an amazingly beautiful 20-year-old, in that punk/hip sort of way. Between her first album and her second, she quickly grew up in front of our eyes, and not in a skanky Britney Spears way. Her infamous Grammy mispronunciation of “Bowie” aside, one thing Avril has always been is cool. She is a trend setter, not afraid of anything, or anyone. No one is safe from Avril when she goes on a tear. And that's not just in her spoken words, but also her musical lyrics. She talks about not going to give "it" up and how some ex threw away her perfect image and hope for the future.
That's ballsy.
Originally, Avril was not cool. She sang at country music festivals, in dire need of getting discovered by a top-notch record exec. However, she did teach herself the guitar and wrote her first song at age 12. And when Arista's Antonio "LA" Reid found her, she was destined for success thanks to her spunky, free spirit.
After her 2002 debut album, "Let Go" sold millions, suddenly girls all over the world were showing their midriff while wearing ties, and with her second album “Under My Skin” selling well, the former teen punk princess isn’t going to be losing her cool any time soon.
